Checking Database profile parameters from SAP

Sajith Kannoth

Principal Consultant

08-Apr-2015

Use transaction code DB26 to list the database parameters and current value.

It will also list if the parameter is dynamic or if requires database restart to take effect the changes.

Check the value for System modifiable / Session modifiable fields.

System-Modifiable Parameters:

IMMEDIATE: The database parameter can be changed using the database command 'ALTER SYSTEM' and is immediately activated for all current database user sessions and therefore for the entire SAP System.

DEFERRED:  The database parameter can be changed using the database command 'ALTER SYSTEM' and is activated for all database user sessions started after the change was made (for example, for SAP application servers started after the change was made).

FALSE:    The database parameter cannot be changed using the database command 'ALTER SYSTEM'.

Session-Modifiable Parameters:

TRUE: The parameter can be changed using the database command 'ALTER SESSION'.

FALSE: The parameter cannot be changed using the database command 'ALTER SESSION'.

The change is effective immediately, but only for the corresponding database user session. In the SAP context this means the change becomes effective for all SAP user sessions whose dialog steps are processed by these database work processes.
